There will be numerous college and business visits this month during all lunches in the cafeteria. The Army National Guard will be here on Monday, January 23. Army will be here on Tuesday, January 24, and Pittsburgh Technical Institute will be here on Wednesday, January 25. If you are interested in one of these schools or businesses, be sure to stop by their table for more information. You can also stop by the student waiting area of the eleven twelve office to check out a variety job opportunities in the area.
The ski club will be helping with the Special Olympics at 7 springs on Monday, January 30th. Anyone interested in volunteering should see Mr. McCombie for the necessary paperwork.
Big Brothers Big Sisters needs your help to tutor students at Baggaley Elementary School and Latrobe Junior High School. There will be an Orientation at the high school in the Library on Wednesday, January 25 from 2:30 to 3:15. If you are interested, see Ms. Kuhn in the 9/10 office.
C1: On January 28th, the Greater Latrobe Forensic Team is hosting a Big Question Debate. It is open to any 9th-12th grader, and it is a wonderful opportunity to practice speaking and argument skills, as well as research, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The topic is RESOLVED: Science leaves no room for free will. Students can debate as a single person, or find a friend and debate as a team. There will be four to five rounds of debate and awards. Each round will be approximately 35 to 40 minutes. Because the Big Question Debate is open to all schools in the area, it will be an opportunity to interact with other students and build interpersonal skills, too. Interested students should contact Dr. Bompiani-Smith at the Junior High School.
C3: Do you play guitar, bass guitar, piano, or drums? The jazz band is currently looking for instrumentalists for the rhythm section for next year's Senior High Jazz Band. This applies to all current 8th-11th graders. Any student interested should contact Mr. Sheridan by Monday, February 6th.
C1: Attention juniors: An informational meeting concerning the Allied Health Internship Program scheduling option will be held Tuesday, January 24 during seminar and period 1 in the Library Classroom. The Allied Health Internship class is a course offering available to students at the senior level. This course is taught in cooperation with Latrobe Area Hospital. Students will study medical terminology, infection control, first aid, CPR, confidentiality, legal issues and anatomy and physiology. Clinical experience involves radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, emergency services, chiropractic, nursing, dentistry, surgery, social services, oncology and cardiovascular services. Class instructor Mrs. McCreery will address the group and answer questions. Applications will be available following the presentation. Students interested in attending the presentation should sign up in the 11/12 office as soon as possible.
The Greater Latrobe Choirs want you to be part of the ensemble! Auditions for Chamber Choir will be held on January 27th and February 3rd. If you would like to audition, please pick up the audition materials from Ms. Surden in F207, and be sure to sign up for an audition time slot.
The German club will meet in Herr Kiefer's room on Wednesday, January 25 at 2:40. We will discuss Star Wars movie night and the Badminton tournament "Battle of the languages" which will take place on February 24.
