    Week 2

     

    Monday 05 September 2016

    What:  Students will be able to relax.

    How: There is no school for Labor Day.

     

    Tuesday 06 September 2016

    What:  Students will be able complete a worksheet reviewing the anatomy of the night sky and early astronomy. 

    How: I will have the students complete a worksheet with a partner.  With 10 minutes remaining in the period we will go to the planetarium to see the star field with no low light adjustment period.

     

    Wednesday 07 September 2016

    What:  Students will be able to visualize the anatomy of the night sky and early astronomy.

    How: We will go to the planetarium to view the concept from yesterday’s worksheet.

     

    Thursday 08 September 2016

    What:  Students will be able to explain how Eratosthenes calculated the diameter of the Earth.

    How:  I will start by asking the students to prove the Earth is round without looking in their texts.  I will then ask the students how one could figure out the diameter of the Earth.  Next the students will answer a few questions guiding them to an answer.  The finish class we will go to the planetarium and see how Eratosthenes was able to do so.

    What:  Students will be able to locate the circumpolar constellations of the night sky.

    How:  We will go to the planetarium where I will point out and the students will practice locating the circumpolar constellations.

     

     

    These are the base plan for the week and may differ from day to day based on the differentiated needs of each class.
