This week our comprehension skill will be working on learning about nonfiction text features such as table of contents, index, glossary, graphs, diagrams, captions, etc. In grammar we will be learning about adverbs. Our phonics/spelling pattern is to practice words with str, thr, and scr, and spr.
This week, we will continue to practice the Associative Property of Addition. This property states that you can group addends in different ways and still get the same sum. This will be our first introduction to using parentheses in math. An example of the Associative Property: (16+7) + 23 = 16 + (7+23). We will also be practice subtracting 3 digit numbers.

Wildcat Time is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please drop your child off between 8:30-8:35.
Red Ribbon Week starts on October 21nd. Monday-wear red; Tuesday-mix it up day; Wednesday-camo; Thursday-favorite sports team; Friday-school spirit
Halloween parties will be held on Friday, October 25th. Your child may bring their costume to school in a labeled bag. Please remember that costumes can not contain a toy weapon. Students will have time to change at school; however there will not be time to apply makeup or do their hair. If your child would like to bring in a treat to share with the class our homeroom has approximately 20 students.
There is a two hour late start on Tuesday, October 29th.
Please contact your child’s teacher to set up a parent teacher conference if you have not already done so. There will not be school for students on Tuesday, November 5th due to conferences.
Each evening students should study spelling and vocabulary words and math facts, practice the fluency passage, read for the reading challenge, and work on the spiral sheet. All weekly tests will be on Fridays unless otherwise noted.
3S Student News
This week we learned dictionary skills by splitting words to help us pronounce the words. We are learning more short and long vowels. We continue to read Edward Tulane in class together.
In math we are learning to round to the nearest ten and hundred. In music class, we got our recorders. I am so excited!! In gym class we are playing angle ball. It’s a lot of fun!!
This week in math, we started to learn about the Associative Property. We are also learning how to round to the nearest ten and we are adding three 2 digit numbers.
