    Dear 1M families,

It’s time to start thinking about going back to school! I am looking forward to a fun-filled year with energetic students! I wanted to give you some information before our first day together to hopefully answer some questions you and/or your child may have about first grade.

When your child arrives to school on the first day, several teachers will be waiting in the halls to assist him/her in finding our classroom. I will be waiting to greet your child outside of our room.

The first week of school will be extremely busy, so the first grade team and I have comprised a list of supplies you and your child may want to purchase before school starts. These items include:

Please be sure to label your child’s belongings. I do have extra supplies. If your child needs materials we are working with, I will make sure he/she has everything needed.  I kindly ask each family to please donate one box of tissues so we are prepared for the winter sniffles. If you would like to donate any additional supplies such as tissues, glue sticks, etc., I would greatly appreciate it!

On a typical school day, the doors will open at 9:05 a.m. and the first class will start at 9:25. The students will begin to be dismissed at 3:50 p.m. Each afternoon, we will have a class snack time. Please send in a healthy, nut-free snack for your child each day, if he/she would like one. A healthy snack could include: fruit, vegetables, pretzels, goldfish, raisins, etc. Also, a water bottle with a lid containing only water is permitted in the classroom.

The lunch routine will be very similar to kindergarten. Your child’s lunch number will be the same number he/she used in kindergarten. We will practice these numbers on the first day of school. Feel free to practice the number ahead of time too. If your child does not have a lunch number, he/she will be given one the first day of school. A daily lunch costs $2.50.

The schedule for special classes at Mt. View Elementary will be on a 6 day rotation. The first day of school will be Day 1. 1M’s schedule for this year will be as follows:

Day 1: Music     Day 2: Library     Day 3: Gym     Day 4: Music     Day 5: Art     Day 6: Gym

I can’t wait to meet you and your child at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 6-8pm!  If you would like to contact me beforehand, please feel free to email me at heather.mormack@glsd.us.

Enjoy the last days of summer!
