Art Catalogs: A Unique Vision of Art I & II & An Extended Vision of Art

by Barbara H. Nakles

The school board created the GLSD Art Conservation Trust in 1991 to oversee the collection and raise funds for its care.  The group is composed of school and community members in a partnership that has accomplished far more than its original mandate.  The Trust has spearheaded and raised funds for projects such as creating catalogs about the art collections and building the Center for Student Creativity at the senior high school.

Barbara H. Nakles wrote the first edition of A Unique Vision of Art in 1996.  In 2008, the Art Conservation Trust published a second edition of A Unique Vision of Art, which updated the book to include artwork acquired from 1936 to 2007. In 2022, the Art Conservation Trust published An Extended Vision of Art by Barbara H. Nakles. This book features Senior High School works from 2008-2021, a comprehensive presentation of the Junior High Collection (2011-2021), photographs, and titles of all works in the elementary school art collections (2000-2021), and a few selections from the Ancillary Collection, which is a collection of donated artwork.   All proceeds from the sale of the books will be used to conserve the collection, ensuring that the vision continues.
